Concrete Driveways Sydney
A driveway carries vehicle loads every day of its life, and almost every failure we are called out to look at traces back to one of three things: it went down too thin, the reinforcement was laid on the ground rather than within the slab, or it was never saw cut.
We pour driveways at 130mm over S72 mesh raised on plastic chairs, in 32MPa concrete at 20mm aggregate. That is the specification on every driveway we quote — it is not an upgrade and it is not a line item you have to ask for.

Worth knowing
How we approach driveways
130mm, not 100mm
A hundred millimetres is a third less concrete and nobody measures it once the truck has gone. It holds up until the first hot summer, then spider-cracks under the wheels. We pour 130mm.
Drainage before the pour, not after
Falls are set at the formwork stage so water runs away from the house and off the slab. Correcting drainage after a driveway is poured means cutting it up.
How a project runs
Seven stages
The sequence is the same on every project we quote, driveways included.
- 01
Demolition and excavation
Existing slab removed, ground opened up and a skip brought on site. Spoil is carted away rather than left at the frontage.
- 02
Levelling and base
Base graded and compacted. No quantity of concrete corrects a poorly prepared subgrade.
- 03
Formwork
Boxed and pegged to finished levels, with falls set so water drains away from the building.
- 04
Steel fixing
S72 reinforcing mesh raised on plastic chairs so it sits within the slab, with abelflex to the perimeter.
- 05
The pour
32MPa at 20mm aggregate, pumped where access requires it. Driveways are poured at 130mm.
- 06
Finishing
Screeded, floated and hand finished while the concrete is still green.
- 07
Saw cutting
Cut early to control where the slab relieves. Every slab moves; the cuts determine where.
