Concrete Crossovers Sydney

The crossover is the section between the kerb and your boundary. It is council land, it has to be built to their specification, and it usually has drainage running through it that needs resolving before anything is poured.

It is worth doing the crossover and the driveway together. Done separately you end up with two pours meeting at the boundary at slightly different levels, and a lip you feel every time you drive over it.

How we approach crossovers

Levels have to match at the boundary

The crossover meets your driveway at the property line. Pouring both together is the only reliable way to get that junction flush rather than stepped.

Drainage gets resolved first

Stormwater and kerb drainage run through this section. It is sorted at excavation, because the alternative is breaking up new concrete to reach it.

How a project runs

Seven stages

The sequence is the same on every project we quote, crossovers included.

Demolition and excavation

Existing slab removed, ground opened up and a skip brought on site. Spoil is carted away rather than left at the frontage.

Levelling and base

Base graded and compacted. No quantity of concrete corrects a poorly prepared subgrade.

Formwork

Boxed and pegged to finished levels, with falls set so water drains away from the building.

Steel fixing

S72 reinforcing mesh raised on plastic chairs so it sits within the slab, with abelflex to the perimeter.

The pour

32MPa at 20mm aggregate, pumped where access requires it. Driveways are poured at 130mm.

Finishing

Screeded, floated and hand finished while the concrete is still green.

Saw cutting

Cut early to control where the slab relieves. Every slab moves; the cuts determine where.
